Hello Hacker,

Yes, you heard it right. Hacker. Everyone who participates in hackathon are refereed as Hacker. There’s a common misconception regarding the word “Hackathon”. Why would I want to get involved in an event centered around theft, malicious code and destroying systems? Fortunately, this couldn’t be more wrong! As a matter of fact, hackathons are the complete opposite; they are amazing events that encourage creativity, collaboration and the creation of awesome programs/projects

A hackathon is best described as an “invention marathon”. Anyone who has an interest in technology attends a hackathon to learn, build & share their creations over the course of a weekend in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. You don’t have to be a programmer and you certainly don’t have to be majoring in Computer Science.

Okay. Lets get to your most asked questions.

What are benefits of attending Hackathon?

Networking. At a hackathon event, you will usually meet people who have the same interests and skills as you. This creates the perfect environment for networking. All you need to do is network and exchange contact information with your fellow Hackers. Who knows, you may end up being a best friends or business partners.

Add value to your resume or CV. Hackathon participation looks very good on your resume or CV. It signals to people that you have problem solving skills, programming skills, experience working in intense environments, and know how to win. People know that participating in a hackathon instantly increases your knowledge and skill level.

Create new concepts and ideas. Intense problem-solving environments like hackathons facilitate the creation of innovative ideas and concepts. You must work with people from various fields, with multiple interests and skills, all collaborating to solve the same problem. The fact that there are time constraints make the task more exciting and brings out the best in people.

What if I don’t know how to code?

Not a problem! Many people that come to hackathons, arrive with little or no experience coding, wishing to find their feet and get started. A hackathon is one of the best places to learn how to code as you’re surrounded by experienced coders, industry mentors and friendly organizers.

Even if you don’t want to learn coding, you can still work on solving problems via other ways like designing solutions, new idea generation and innovation. Main aim of HackArena is provide you a platform where you can work at peak of your productivity level.

What kind of Things Hackers do/build at Hackathon?

Hackers build all sorts of projects, ranging from fully functional website and apps to prototype of innovative idea that never exists before. At this point you must be surprised, what is expected from someone who has no experience in coding. Well, you can build/design a solutions, pitch your ideas which must be backed up by some working prototype. With that to increase your chances of wining the game is adding detail explanations to real world applications and implementations.

Will I annoy people if I ask them questions?

Not at all! This is a common misconception about hackathons and in actual fact, it’s the complete opposite. The environment at these events are designed specifically to encourage everyone to have fun and help each other. If you’re ever stuck on anything, go find a volunteer who might able to help and if not, they will almost certainly know who can.

What if I don’t have an Idea?

That’s normal. Most people don’t have an idea before they get to the event. But once you start talking to other people, you might come up with something. You can also work with somebody else on their idea if you like it. And there will be prizes at the event which might help give you some ideas. Don’t worry about it, you’ll find something to work on.

What if I don’t want to present my hack?

You might think your project isn’t impressive or it might not be finished so you don’t want to present it. You should present it anyway! Honestly, hackathons isn’t about being the best or being competitive. It’s all about having fun, making friends and learning how to become better at things you care about. Presenting your hack gives you a chance to be proud of what you’ve done, and you should be proud.

What are checkpoints in timeline?
